The purpose of Sufism and its fruit is knowledge of the truth – blessed and exalted be He – and knowledge is not achieved without knowledge, and if Sufism is called a path, then the one who travels in it cannot reach his goal, and he is not safe from delusion in his paths and paths without a guide and without the lights that dispel the darkness in front of him. And those ways are all reached by science.
And if knowledge – as a term – is a firm belief that corresponds to reality according to evidence, then among the people of Sufism: the light that brings them out of the darkness of sin and frees them from the shackles of matter, then it is their ship by which they pass through the seas of knowledge, until they reach the shore of truth.
And Imam al-Ja`fari – may God Almighty be pleased with him – had attended the discipline of knowledge since he was a boy with his peers having fun and playing, so he grew up – may God Almighty be pleased with him – in an environment of knowledge and religion, and since Sufism was his way and his way of life, Imam Al Jaafari considered seeking knowledge with a purely mystical view. He asked him in his childhood to be his means and way to the presence of his Lord and Master, and he took him as a supplement to help him to instill his law in order to enjoy the fruits of his truth, for knowledge among the people is an act of worship, method and behavior.
It is proven among the scholars of Sufism that Sufism – a science and a method – has two pillars: the Sharia and the Truth, and they are inseparable from the soul of the body. Life is not achieved without them together, and the shadow is linked to its origin. One cannot imagine the existence of one of them without the existence of the other. Without knowing and understanding the secrets of the Sharia, and also for whoever thinks that he is not in need of the knowledge of the truth as long as he can understand and legislate, his stopping at the limit of the Sharia alone will prevent him from reaping its fruits, and it is as if he walked on a road that has no end or fired an arrow of his identity, he did not specify for him Imam al-Ja`fari – may God Almighty be pleased with him – referred to that by saying: “Without him the sea of your law would not have been your truth, and the sea of your truth would otherwise not have been fulfilled. Abu Abdullah Imam Malik bin Anas – may God Almighty be pleased with him – said: Whoever Sufis would not agree with him He adhered to him, and whoever understood him and did not perform Sufism, he adultered.
People are not the same in seeking knowledge, some of them seek knowledge for a worldly purpose or benefit, and some of them seek it in order to please God Almighty, and with the intention to benefit Muslims and teach them while working according to knowledge, and the world benefits from it in itself before teaching others, and that type of scholars attains the approval of the Almighty – Blessed and Exalted be He – and the worldly knowledge is overflowing his heart. He – the Almighty – said: (And we taught him from our own), and the Messenger of God – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family – said: “Whoever does what God will inherit knowledge of what he does not know.”
Imam al-Ja`fari – may God Almighty be pleased with him –
deduced from the verse and hadith this benefit : Knowledge is two sciences: my gain and hereditary. The gain is taken from the issuance of men, as my master Abd al-Ali – may God Almighty be pleased with him – said to me before he came to Al-Azhar. “Knowledge is taken from the issuance of men, not from books.” The gift is what flows over the heart of the knowledgeable world, and it is degrees, and according to degrees, floods descend.
God Almighty has prepared for our Sheikh Imam al-Ja`fari – may God Almighty be pleased with him – sheikhs, knowledgeable and working scholars. Knowledge of its two types: the gainful and the gifted, represented by the people in his abundant lessons, and his compositions covered with majesty, crowned with majesty. Because it was issued by a working scientist, and Wali Arif, and one of the most prominent features of the Al-Jaafari Scientific School: his mastery of various sciences, and his navigation in all the arts, so he did not stop at one science without another, but he roamed the Riads of Arab and Islamic sciences, and went to pick from its flowers and reap its fruits.
